How to Prepare for Your Tattoo

It’s important to keep the area to be tattooed well hydrated—good skin quality makes the process easier and faster. Apply body lotion in the morning and evening! Use a rich cream for dry skin, and a strong moisturizer for oily skin. Choose a high-quality product, as you’ll also need it to care for your tattoo after it heals.

1–2 days before your appointment: get plenty of rest and drink lots of water!

Getting a tattoo isn’t the most pleasant experience—especially if it takes several hours—so make sure you’re well-rested. Get a good night’s sleep the night before. If you arrive exhausted, your pain tolerance and patience may be significantly lower.

Be sure to eat something the morning of your appointment; starting a tattoo session on an empty stomach can lead to feeling unwell or even fainting.

Tattoo Session Survival Kit

Since your whole day will be about getting tattooed, it’s a good idea to pack a few essentials—just like you would for a beach day. Wear comfortable “play clothes” that you don’t mind getting stained with ink or blood. When choosing what to wear, consider the placement of the tattoo—it’s important that the area can be easily exposed.
