Is vegan tattooing a thing?

The short answer is: yes! As veganism becomes a way of life for more and more people, it’s only natural that they extend their lifestyle choices to other areas – including tattoos – staying true to the principles of vegan living.

What’s the difference between a traditional and a vegan tattoo?

As the name suggests, vegan tattoos don’t involve any animal-derived products during the process. Some tattoo inks contain glycerin, usually used as a stabilizer, or bone char in black pigments. At our studio, vegan inks are available – in fact, most modern inks today are vegan by default. Besides the ink, certain aftercare products and tools used during tattooing may also contain animal-derived ingredients – for example, glycerin in razor strips, lanolin (from sheep’s wool) in stencil paper, or ingredients in healing creams. That’s why it’s worth checking the product labels if you want to stay fully vegan throughout the process.

Is vegan ink safer?

Some people claim that it heals better and faster, but there’s no scientific proof to support this. However, vegan inks are safe, non-toxic, and free from carcinogenic substances. We can’t say they’re safer than traditional inks – but they’re certainly not worse for your skin.

Is vegan tattoo ink healthier?

Not necessarily healthier – but it is cruelty-free, meaning no harm or testing on animals.
